A World Record Run

500 Miles and still rolling

Leg 17 began with some unease on the status of team member Brian Fuller, but all doubts were erased when the iron man blasted off 5:30 miles like it was a walk in the park. The team rolled through the undulating Indiana countryside at a respectable clip, eclipsing the 500 mile mark in the process. The squad of Fuller, Blood, and Hilton powered up some unexpected hills, avoided some rather speedy and rambunctious tractor drivers, and spooked a terrified looking horse who looked at Brian as if he were some kind of alien. (apparently long distance running isn’t terribly common on the country roads of northern indiana.) Brian ducked into a ditch to avoid any hoof to face contact and continued on to the end of the leg where Owen Dawson graciously accepted the baton, with evidently zero anger.

Meanwhile, the resting team members experienced some general kindness, from some fellow PSU fans who were preparing to leave to attend the opening game in State College on Saturday. After some outdoor showering, the team was enjoying some strange looking meals including Dr. Pepper, chocolate covered almonds, bananas, spaghetti, meatballs, orange juice, and other items that just don’t seem to fit. But hey, if the furnace is hot enough, anything will burn. And any of us will attest that the furnace is pretty hot.

We continue plowing on through Indiana into the evening, approaching the 600 mile mark.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support which inspires us every step of the way!

I like your writing style, Ryan! it keeps an otherwise difficult task humorous and upbeat. I’m so proud (and excited) for what you fellas are accomplishing that I think I’m going to go out and run 3 or 4 myself. Keep up the hard work, stay focused, be strong, and don’t be afraid (avoid the horses) and I have no doubt you all will achieve your goal! Dianne and I are rooting for you all.
